The Origin of Dectron 7

If you haven’t noticed, we kind of have an insanely weird URL. If you know Mr. P and I in real life, the weirdness is NOT something new. We are both kind of quirky and goofy and we are full of inside jokes. We tend to giggle and laugh about the same silly things for months.
Well when we found out about Jacob (can you believe it’s been almost a year?) quite unexpectedly, we fell back on our sense of humor help us accept the fact that we were going to be parents and that our lives were going to be forever changed.

At one point Mr. P was joking with some of his friends that the baby was going to come out as a transformer. He had all sorts of plans for our little transformer. He was going to be a set of golf clubs and a hummer, among many other things. And when I asked Mr. P what the babies transformer name was going to be he pondered it, for only a moment, and replied “Dectron 7″. It stuck.

Our baby had a nickname. For the first 19 weeks of Jacob’s little life he was referred to as Dectron in our home. Even our family and friends caught on and I was receiving regular emails, messages and texts asking how Dectron was doing and how he was treating Mama. I had a little transformer growing inside of me (even though he looked like a teddy bear in his 10 week ultrasound).

And considering that the #1 most popular nickname for a baby in-utero is “Cletus the Fetus” (no joke, check it out here) I’d take Dectron 7 any day.

And yes – I have considered changing our URL, but I just can’t bring myself to do it. Dectron 7 signifies the start of our journey as parents. It was Jacob’s first nickname. And I wouldn’t be surprised if someday it’s still his nickname. Every time I’ve gone to change the URL I have decided against it because it means  so much to me. I’ve watched our boy grow from Dectron 7 into Jacob and little Dectron will always have a place in my heart.
